Rain will be in the forecast all through Easter Sunday and possibly into early next week, and that could put a dent in your holiday weekend plans.
"It's certainly time to be thinking about contingency plans, for sure," LSU Health climatologist Barry Keim said. "It's going to be an unsettled weather pattern for a protracted period of time."
Keim says the showers we'll see over the next few days will be nuisance pop-up showers rather than major downpours. According to Keim, the best chances for rain will be in the afternoon hours.
"There's always an enhancement in those afternoon hours as the temperatures warm up a little bit. It further destabilizes the atmosphere," Keim said. "When thunderstorms pop off, they usually last an hour. They pop off, they do their thing, and it generally clears out for a while. Sometimes, you can get another rain event some hours later."
According to Keim, there's no need to cancel your Easter plans, but he urges you to keep an eye on the weather.
"Adjust your plans accordingly, but be prepared such that you can have a contingency in place for those moments when the rain is actually falling," Keim said. "Just be smart about it and take the proper precautions."
