A cruise ship crewmember is in the hospital after the Coast Guard airlifted her from a cruise ship south of New Orleans.
According to Coast Guard officials, watchstanders in New Orleans received a call from the Carnival Valor just after 7 p.m. Saturday. That call alerted the watchstanders about a crew member who needed immediate medical care.
The Coast Guard dispatched a helicopter crew to the ship, which was located near Port Sulphur at the time of the rescue. The Coast Guard hoisted the crew member, described only as a 29-year-old woman, into the helicopter and flew her to West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero for treatment.
The crew member's condition is reportedly stable.
