Violence only took one day off before raging back

A day after the city of New Orleans went 24 hours without any reported homicides, shootings, rapes, armed robberies or carjackings; criminal seem to have tried to make up for lost time.

NOPD reports three shootings, a stabbing, a rape and an armed robbery between Wednesday morning and Thursday morning.


It started at just after 7:00am when two suspects attacked and robbed a man in Gentilly.

"Suspects struck victim several times with stick. Victim sustained lacerations to face. Suspects took cash from victim and fled."

Shortly after 9:00am gunfire was reported in the St. Claude neighborhood

Cops say a man and woman got into an argument in the 3700 block of North Villere Street. The 20-year-old woman sustained a gunshot graze wound to the back.

"Suspect went to victim’s residence. Verbal altercation ensued and become physical, during which suspect fired weapon."

Just before 5:00pm, NOPD was notified about a rape in Algiers.  Both the suspect and the victim were described as juveniles.

"Victim sexually assaulted by suspect."

There was a stabbing shortly before 1:00am on Bourbon Street.

"Suspect reportedly stabbed two victims in separate incidents. Suspect apprehended short time later. Both victims transported to hospital."

That was in the 200 block of Bourbon Street.

Just after 2:00am bullets were flying in the St. Claude neighborhood again.

"Victim sitting inside vehicle when he saw another vehicle pass and then heard shots. Victim sustained graze wound to back and relocated to a local hospital for treatment."

That happened in the 3700 block North Villere Street.

Cops say a man accidentally shot himself just before 4:00am in New Orleans East.

"Detectives determined that the victim’s gunshot-related injury was determined to be self-inflicted via accidental discharge."

That happened in the 4900 block of Rhodes Drive.
