Four murders over the weekend in Algiers helped push along the very dangerous violent crime trend in New Orleans according to data from the watchdog group Metropolitan Crime Commission.
Between Friday and Saturday, four people were killed in shootings in Algiers. A 63-year-old man was shot to death on Sumner Street, a woman was killed in a shooting on Cobblestone Lane, a man was found dead from gunshot wounds on Herschel Street, and another man was found dead on Westbend Parkway, he was also shot dead.
According to the crime commission, there have been 77 homicides so far this year compared to 51 homicides in 2021.

Shootings are not much higher than the same time in 2021 about an 8% increase but are up 132% and 61% relative to 2019 and 2020, respectively, says the crime commission.
Carjackings continue to climb despite fewer carjackings last week. The crime commission data shows a 307% increase in carjackings since 2019 and a 54% increase over last year.
