The Walmart in New Orleans on Tchoupitoulas Street will close until next year so crews can deep clean the building.
The cleaning is a precaution due to growing concerns of the surging COVID-19.
A Walmart spokesperson says the store will close today, Dec. 30, at 2 p.m. and reopen New Year’s Day at 6:00 a.m.
“Everything we’re doing is for the well-being of our associates and the thousands of customers we serve daily, and in consideration of guidance by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and health experts,” Wlamart said in a statement. “Given the rise in positive cases, we will follow CDC guidance, which includes fully vaccinated people wearing masks in public indoor settings in counties with substantial or high transmission.”
This is the second New Orleans area Walmart location to close for a COVID cleaning. The Walmart in Kenner closed Wednesday and will reopen on Dec. 31.
