The Coast Guard rescued one person Tuesday from a downed aircraft south of Morgan City.
The Coast Guard Sector in New Orleans received a report at 8:18 a.m. about a single-engine Cessna 182T airplane that crashed into Fourleague Bay near Morgan City.
The watchstanders launched a Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew to assist in the rescue.
The helicopter crew and a St. Mary's Parish Sheriff's Department boatcrew also helped in the rescue. The helicopter crew found the pilot and safely hoisted the person from the water and took them to an awaiting emergency medical crew at an airport near Morgan City.
The Coast Guard says only one person was on board the aircraft. The person suffered only minor injuries and is expected to recover.
