Amid a pandemic, a time of social unrest, street protests, and increased violent crime seven new officers join the New Orleans Police Department.
Police Superintendent Shaun Ferguson and New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell welcomed the new recruits of class 119 to their swearing in as officers on Friday.
“Thank you class 190 for your commitment, your dedication. You join us on a very, very difficult and challenging time,” Superintendent Ferguson said in an address to the graduating recruits. “You stayed the course when have walked away, through a global pandemic, social unrest, you stayed the course.”
“I want you to remember you are a part of this community and this community is a part of you,” Ferguson added.
“I want you to be grounded in service and community; I want you to know you have the support system around you to be great and to thrive in this profession,” Mayor LaToya Cantrell said in an address to the new officers.“
