Authorities will be working today to bring convicted murderer Derrick Groves back to Louisiana, after the jail escapee was caught at an Atlanta home after spending five months on the lam.

If Derrick Groves waives extradition, bringing him back to Louisiana to face justice shouldn't take too long. Or he could choose to do it the hard way.

"If he fights extradition, essentially law enforcement would have to secure a governor's warrant to have him extradited back to Louisiana," said Brian Fair with the U.S. Marshals Service.

The investigation also continues into who helped Groves evade authorities for the entire summer and start of fall.

"If it's determined that people helped him while he was on the run, they could definitely face charges," Fair told WWL-TV.

New Orleans District Attorney Jason Williams says it's clear that Groves had to have help to evade capture for five months.

"If you go to Atlanta later on today, you're going to have some help," said  Williams. "He obviously had some help. There will be a thorough investigation to any and everybody who helped him along the way."
