Former New Orleans Saints player Steve Gleason is in stable condition at a local hospital after being taken there in the midst of Hurricane Francine.
According to a post on his X account, New Orleans EMS and fire department had to bring Gleason to Ochsner last night for unspecified reasons.
"We want to thank @NOLAFireDept first responders and @NewOrleansEMS for getting to us during unsafe circumstances," the post reads.
The post also thanks Ochsner staff for their immediate care.
Gleason suffers from ALS and cannot move or breathe on his own.
Gleason is famous in New Orleans for blocking a punt that was returned for a touchdown on Monday Night Football in 2006 during the Saints' first game in the Superdome after Hurricane Katrina.
He was diagnosed with ALS five years later and now reportedly can only communicate via eye movements.
