A woman who allegedly stole a car with a child inside of it is now in custody.
According to New Orleans police, the theft happened around 4:15 p.m. Tuedsay on South Peters near Calliope.
Investigators say, the car's owner left it running while he went inside a business. That's when, investigators say, Shanita Baker got inside the car and drove away. The victim's 10-year-old son was still in the car when Baker allegedly stole it.
Police later found the car about five-and-a-half miles away on Gentilly Boulevard near Elysian Fields. Police arrested Baker and found the victim's son inside the car. According to investigators, the child was not injured during the incident.
Baker is facing auto theft and simple kidnapping charges.
