New Orleans Police say gunmen held up a driver a block away from the Loyola University campus Monday night.
"Victim driving when she pulled behind SUV at intersection. Subjects exited SUV armed and demanded victim’s vehicle and cellphone. Victim complied," according to an initial police report.
It happened at Palmer Ave. and Loyola Ave. shortly after 11:30pm.
The report says the carjackers didn't go far.
"Suspects fled in victim’s vehicle, abandoning it a block away."
The victim is a 22-year-old woman.
The Metro Crime Commission says carjackings are up by 44 (20%) this year over last year and have increased by 165 (167%) compared to 2019.
