Police shot and killed a woman Wednesday afternoon in Metairie.
"The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is currently working a deputy-involved shooting near the intersection of Lisa Dr. and Veterans Blvd.," Captain Jason Rivarde said in an email.
Sheriff Joe Lopinto says the suspect driving a BMW SUV dragged a deputy down the street when he approached her car and tried to stop her.
He says the driver then hit a deputy and tried to drive away with the officer on the hood. That's when police shot and killed her.
"It doesn't seem like a whole lot was right with her," he told media on the scene.
The sheriff says it all appears to have started with the woman angry with a parish work crew.
"There was a lot of cursing and yelling by the female that was here, using a bunch of different slurs."
Deputies arrived to talk to her, but Lopinto says she lashed out at them too and tried to flee.
"I have no clue about her motive or any information about her... tensions have been high around here," Lopinto insisted. "People need to learn a little patience around here."

Sheriff Joseph Lopinto reports that the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal deputy-involved shooting that occurred today in Metairie.
Just after 3:30 pm, deputies were dispatched to a disturbance in the 6400 block of Park Manor Drive. They encountered a white female who was agitated and causing the disturbance with parish workers who were in the area. Deputies approached and made several attempts to calm the woman down, but she eventually fled in her vehicle while dragging a deputy alongside.
At around 3:52 pm, the woman was stopped by traffic near the intersection of Veterans Blvd. and Lisa Dr. Deputies again approached her vehicle, and she struck one with the vehicle. Another deputy who was standing alongside the vehicle fired several shots at the woman, who was struck several times. The vehicle then rolled to a stop a short distance away.
The woman was pronounced dead on the scene.
