Police say a woman is dead after surviving a crash on I-55 Sunday.
"Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on Interstate 55," Trooper Marc Gremillion said in a news release.
It happened just before 7:00am between the Independence and Amite exits.
Gremillion says 29-year-old Cierra Porche of Hammond died.
"The first crash involved a 2007 Saturn Vue, driven by Porche. The Saturn was traveling northbound in the left lane."
The trooper says Porche was changing lanes and hit a 2022 Ford Edge with her Saturn.
"The Saturn crossed into the right lane and struck the rear left side of the Ford. As a result, the Ford came to rest in the median, while the Saturn stopped in the right northbound lane’s ditch."
That's when Porche reportedly got out of her Saturn and crossed the I-55 to the Ford in the median. Then she tried to get back to her vehicle.
"After leaving the median, Porche was walking into the left lane of Interstate 55 when a 2022 GMC 2500, which was traveling northbound in the left lane, struck Porche. Porche sustained fatal injuries as a result of the second crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene."
Investigators are waiting on routine toxicology samples obtained from Porche as part of the ongoing investigation.
