New Orleans Police homicide detectives are investigating a homicide discovered near the intersection of Florida Avenue and New Orleans Street.
Police say shortly after 2:10 p.m. Sunday, officers were sent to investigate a call of a body found at that location.
Police found the victim, a woman, in a nearby drainage canal. The body appeared to have signs of blunt-force trauma. New Orleans EMS pronounced the victim dead.
The Orleans Parish Coroner's Officer will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

In an earlier version of this story, NOPD reported the victim had sustained a gunshot wound. The story has been updated to include the report of blunt-force trauma.
