New Orleans Police say a woman showed up around 4:15am at the Traffic Division office to report she had been shot.
"The NOPD is investigating a shooting incident where the exact location of occurrence remains under investigation," Senior Public Information Officer Aaron Looney said in a news release. "A female gunshot wound victim arrived in the 1900 block of Tchoupitoulas Street to report the incident."
He says EMS brought the victim to a local hospital for treatment.
The investigation continues. Looney did not release any information on the female's condition or age.
An initial police report offered more details...
"The suspect picked up the victim and brought her to the side of Walmart where he shot her once while inside the vehicle. The suspect then dragged her out of the vehicle and shot her a 2nd time, took her purse and fled inside an older model white Toyota without a hood."
Detectives say they know who shot the victim and have issued a warrant for his arrest.
