A Hammond woman is wanted on fraud charges after telling apartment residents she could have their pets declared "emotional support animals," the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office says.
Investigators say 30-year-old Sara Jacy Saucier was employed at the Creek's Apartment complex and sent emails to tenants reminding them to pay their pet deposit if they owned an animal.
In a follow-up email, Saucier informed tenants that she "had a friend who would provide a medical letter deeming their pets as 'emotional support animals' for half the cost of the pet deposit," the sheriff's office said.
Detectives say Saucier took the money from 15 tenants, and then gave them letters believed to be written by a licensed psychologist.
As it turns out, the letter was just signed by Saucier, said authorities.
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office asks anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Saucier to call Detective Joe Bourn at (985) 902-2072, or Crimestoppers of Tangipahoa at (800) 554-5245.
Callers to Crimestoppers do not have to leave their names and may be eligible for a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest and indictment.
