WWL-TV news anchor Karen Swensen today announced she is retiring from local news at the end of the month.
For more than 20 years, Swensen has been a part of the Eyewitness News team, beginning in the early 1990s anchoring overnight news updates. Since then, she has won multiple Edward R. Murrow awards for broadcast journalism excellence.
After covering Hurricane Katrina's devastating effects on New Orleans, Swensen left the area to be the morning anchor of NECN, a cable news operation in New England. But after nearly five years in Boston, she returned to New Orleans and WWL.
"I’m overwhelmed with a sense of gratitude and love for my colleagues and the viewers who have made the past 24 years a joy and privilege," said Swensen. "It is time for me to step down to pursue a little dream of mine, a business that hopes to promote positivity and encouragement."
