If you’ve ever wondered whether the end of the year is truly the best time to buy a new car, AAA says the answer is a firm "yes."
AAA spokesperson Don Redman says their team routinely advises members that year-end shopping is the smartest move for anyone in the market.
“It absolutely is,” Redman says. “If you’re looking for a vehicle, the end of the year truly gives you the best opportunity to save.”
Redman says the strongest deals will be on new vehicles, as dealerships work to clear their books before January.
“Dealers are trying to move those current-year models off the lot,” he explains. “You’ll see more incentives, more room to negotiate, and better pricing overall.”
He even compares the timing to another popular moment to shop, tax season, but says the dynamic is very different.
“Think of it this way, when more people have more money to spend, the sale may not be as good. End-of-year puts the buyer in a stronger position.”
While prices can always vary by dealership and how quickly they move inventory, Redman says the pattern holds true across the industry.
And the savings don’t stop once you’re at the pump.
“Gas prices are some of the lowest we’ve seen since 2021 and we’re entering the slow season for fuel, so barring any global kerfuffle, prices should stay nice and steady for a while.”
Drivers can expect those lower prices to hold until the traditional spring increase.
From new-car incentives to cheaper fuel, AAA says the close of the year may be the most budget-friendly moment for drivers looking to make a change.
