Just when we thought it was safe....there is something brewing in the gulf.
A storm that has the makings to become a hurricane is on everyone's radar, however, weather experts agree, you shouldn't panic.
National Weather Service Lead Forecaster, Christopher Bannan, says current conditions would destroy a storm.
"Current surface temperatures and wind shear creates a volatile environment."
So, you don't need a hurricane evacuation plan. Bannan says even if the storm somehow stays organized enough to make it to our coast, it won't come close to the level of anything disastrous.
"The wind shear will, in a way, decapitate the system. Impacts will be minimal."
The storm is expected to strengthen somewhat, taking the name Rafael if so. If it were to make landfall, it's projected to be in the later hours of Friday at the earliest.
