Do your allergies seem worse? If it makes you feel better, you aren't making it up!
In a recent study, New Orleans shot up from number 35 to number two in the nation as one of the worst cities for allergy sufferers.
Dr. Reena Mehta of Uptown Allergy and Asthma says environmental factors are to blame.
"The high humidity and climate change coupled with extreme pollen counts makes this the worst spring yet."
Dr. Mehta says as those allergens enter our sinuses through our noses they then make their to the throat and even into the lungs.
"It can give asthma like symptoms to people who aren't asthmatic," Dr Mehta says.
Some patients have gone from one pill to being prescribed inhalers and breathing treatments.
Dr. Mehta stresses that our environment calls for folks to get tested to isolate exactly what causes his or her issues in order to receive proper treatment.
She'd also like to note that there's no need to be afraid of the allergy test.
"It's not drawing blood or getting a shot," says Dr. Mehta. "We just scratch the skin to observe reaction. It's safe and doesn't run the risk of anaphylactic shock or anything like that."
