Do you have your Real ID? Today is the deadline -- sort of.
This all started because of 9/11, and the 9/11 commission's recommendation for a nationwide standard for getting a state-issued ID. But if you don't have one, it doesn't mean your current license is suddenly invalid.
"Your normal driver's license, that everyone has, is still good," said Matt Boudreaux with the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles. "You can drive with it. You can go buy alcohol with it if you're over 21. Nothing changes on that."
We have heard reports of people crowding OMV offices and title companies fearing their current licenses will be invalid after today.
Boudreaux says the Real ID is just needed if your taking a commercial flight, or entering a federal building. And the Department of Homeland Security has announced you can still board domestic flights with a non-Real ID, but be ready for extra scrutiny if you do.
"Or you would need an acceptable alternative, said Boureaux. "So TSA would accept a passport, a TWIC card, or a military ID."
