Despite an unexpected SEC West title in the 2022 football season, and a couple of championships from baseball and women's basketball in 2023, the LSU athletics department posted a lost of nearly $4 million for the 2022-2023 fiscal year.

A report by the Louisiana Legislative Auditor shows expenses for LSU athletics for the year ended June 20, 2023 outpaced revenue by more than $3.8 million.

Football was the biggest revenue generating sport for the university, but also it's biggest expense. Despite that, it still brought in more than $54 million over expenses.

The men's basketball team was also in the black, with more than $1.3 million excess revnues.
