Scoot: Politicians think we are STUPID. Are we?

Loud-mouth Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from Georgia sent out an email blast bragging about bringing in federal funds to her district for infrastructure. The loquacious lovely from the House is letting the voters in her district know that she is doing her job and bringing $3.8 million to her district.

That all sounds impressive, but what Marjorie Taylor Greene failed to tell her voters is that she voted against the bill that flooded federal dollars into her district for infrastructure.  How embarrassing!  MTG takes credit for federal dollars coming to her district when she voted against the bill that led to the money coming in.

The sexually-active Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert voted against President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law calling it “wasteful” and “garbage,” but she requested $33.1 million in federal funding for a transportation project in Colorado.  Boebert further publicly asked for investments in infrastructure, yet she voted against the bill that would send federal dollars for infrastructure.

Rep. Boebert blasted the Inflation Reduction Act and voted against it, but she publicly cheered on over $20 million for her state.

In November of 2021, Republican Rep. Rob Wittman of Virginia used Twitter to celebrate the $70 million expansion of the Port of Virginia in Norfolk, but Rep. Wittman actually voted against the $1.5 trillion infrastructure bill that sent the $70 million to his state for the project.  Wittman bragged to his voters about how he worked hard to secure the funding.  But he voted against the bill!  This is sounding like an episode of South Park.

In 2022, Republican Rep. Kay Granger of Texas publicly supported new federal funding for a flood control project, but she voted against the bill that sent the money to her state.

Celebrating new “game-changing” federal funding to improve locks on the Upper Mississippi River, Republican Rep. Ashley Hinson of Iowa didn’t mention that he voted against the bill that flooded federal funds into his state.  Rep. Hinson claimed she “helped lead a bipartisan group” to “prioritize funding for these essential upgrades,” but never admitted that she voted against the bill.

Louisiana Republican Rep. Steve Scalise followed the Republican protocol by telling voters how great it was that $1 billion in flood protection money and hurricane repairs were headed for Louisiana, but Scalise did not mention that he voted against the bill that allocated the money for his state.

Pandemic escape artist Republican Senator Ted Cruz of Texas took credit in a speech for what he described as an “incredible victory” implying that he led the battle to fund a project in his state when, in reality, Cruz voted against the bill that sent the federal bucks to Texas.

Republican Senator Rick Scott of Florida took credit “securing an unprecedented $1 billion for Everglades restoration, the largest single amount ever allocated by the federal government.”  But Senator Scott voted against the bill that sent the money to his state.

In 2022, President Biden condemned Republican lawmakers for taking credit for federal money pouring into their states, while voting against the bipartisan infrastructure bill.

CNN journalist Jake Tapper discovered that Republicans, other than the aforementioned, bragged to their voters about the federal money they attracted to their states in 2022, but all of them voted against the bill.  Those Republicans included:  Rep. Gary Palmer of Alabama, Rep. Michelle Steel of California, Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks of Iowa, Rep. Clay Higgins of Louisiana, Rep. Garret Graves of Louisiana, Rep. Andy Harris of Maryland, Rep. Pete Stauber of Minnesota, Rep. Yvette Herrell of New Mexico, and Rep. Ken Calvert of California.

For the record:  I googled “Democrats who took credit for bills they voted against” and nothing came up.  If you have news stories showing Democrats who publicly bragged about working for successful bills that they actually voted against, please forward those stories to my email address:  Scoot@WWL.com and I will be happy to share that information.

The point of this blog was not to attack only Republicans.  The point of the blog was to attack the politicians that, like Marjorie Taylor Greene, who took credit for federal money that came into her state when she actually voted against the bill that sent the money to her state.  This is the type of political dishonesty that we should bond together and call out and threaten to vote out of office those politicians that seem to think we are so stupid that we don’t recognize their ill-conceived dishonesty.

As a radical moderate and registered Independent, I think it’s time for those of us who live in the middle between the right-wing radicals and the left-wing nutjobs to unite with OUR voices - which by the way - are greater in numbers than the extremes on both sides.
