The Endymion Parade will be back in full form next month.
Mayor LaToya Cantrell made the long-awaited announcement about the parade's route during a Carnival kickoff event at Mardi Gras World on Friday.
"Endymion will return to the streets of New Orleans in its traditional formation and its traditional route," the mayor told a gathered assembly of city councilmembers, Mardi Gras royalty, and other dignitaries.
Cantrell also announced that the city is seeking assistance from other law enforcement agencies to help police this year's parades. She says the number of officers who come to the city to help will determine if other krewes will be able to parade down their traditional routes.
"We are prepared to invite and pay for any POST-certified law enforcement agency to support us this Carnival season," Cantrell said. "If we collectively find the officers needed to support our crews returning to the streets of New Orleans, there will be no discussions about what routes will be affected or not."
Safety, Cantrell said, is her top priority during Mardi Gras season.
"This is our time to put our best foot forward and to create a win-win as it relates to Mardi Gras 2023 and keeping our residents and our visitors safe," Cantrell said.
