Several law enforcement agencies converged on a high school in Cincinnati Friday morning after receiving reports of an active shooting, only to discover the entire thing was a "hoax."
Police gave the "all clear" at Princeton High School about an hour after an active shooter was reported at the building.
The school and surrounding businesses were put on lockdown, and streets to the area were blocked to traffic when the shooting was reported around 10 o'clock. Students were evacuated and taken to a nearby church to be reunited with parents.
As parents frantically looked for their children, "a police officer announced on a bullhorn they were 95% sure the active shooter report was a hoax and the school is clear," according to WXIX.
Officers searched the school and by 11 a.m., determined there was no threat and the shooting was apparently a hoax.
"We were dispatched to the report of an active shooter at the Princeton High School. At this time, it appears to be a hoax," Sharonville Police Department said on Facebook. "Again, there is NO THREAT and all students are safe."
Deer Park Police elaborated on the situation.
"The threat at Princeton has been confirmed as completely FALSE. It was what is known as a 'swatting' call," the department said.
Because of the disruption, students were dismissed for the day.
Police haven't released any additional details about the incident. An investigation is ongoing.
