President Joe Biden’s campaign took another shot at former President Donald Trump this week, saying the billionaires like Elon Musk think he is a “sucker” they can use for economic gains.
The remarks from Biden’s team came after it was reported by the Wall Street Journal that Musk would receive an advisory role in the White House if Trump wins in 2024.
The role would see Musk provide “formal input” over policies on things like the economy and border.
“Despite what Donald Trump thinks, America is not for sale to billionaires, oil and gas executives, or even Elon Musk,” Biden campaign spokesperson James Singer said in a statement.
Singer went on to say that the former president is only looking to sell “America to pay his legal bills and put himself in power” even though billionaires like Musk see him as “a sucker.”
“They know if they cut him campaign checks, he’ll cut their taxes while he cuts Social Security and other benefits for the middle class,” Singer said.
The Biden campaign went on to say that Trump has reportedly made promises to wealthy donors, saying he would offer tax cuts or back certain policies in exchange for their checkbooks.
Singer said that Biden was not like Trump and instead fought for the middle class.
“Joe Biden has been standing up to people like Elon and fighting for the middle class his entire career — and it’s why he’ll win in November,” Singer said.
