Katz, a noted civil rights and employment attorney, said in a statement on Sunday that she contacted the network Wednesday amid its review of its former 9 p.m. "Cuomo Prime Time" anchor, after her client, a former junior colleague at another network, accused Cuomo of misconduct.

"By Friday, I was in discussions with CNN about providing documentary evidence of my client's allegations and making my client available for an interview with CNN's outside counsel," she said. "Last night, CNN acted promptly on my client's complaint and fired Mr. Cuomo."

In its statement Saturday, CNN said it terminated Chris Cuomo, 51, as "new allegations came to us this week."

The New York Times first reported the new allegation of misconduct after he was fired.

"Based on the report we received regarding Chris’s conduct with his brother’s defense, we had cause to terminate," CNN told The Times. "When new allegations came to us this week, we took them seriously, and saw no reason to delay taking immediate action."

Katz added hat her client wishes to remain anonymous but "will continue to cooperate" with CNN's investigation.

Chris Cuomo said in a statement Saturday that he was "disappointed" by the network's move.

Cuomo had previously been accused of inappropriately touching a former ABC boss at party in 2005, in which he said he apologized for immediately after the incident.
