Florida Gov. and Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis shared his thoughts on the 2020 election in an interview that will be aired on Monday, saying that it is obvious former President Trump lost.

DeSantis made his comments during an interview that will air on Monday’s edition of the “NBC Nightly News.” During the interview, he was asked if he believed Trump won the 2020 election.

“Whoever puts their hand on the Bible on Jan. 20 every four years is the winner,” DeSantis said in response.

He was then pushed for a yes or no answer, and DeSantis replied, “No, of course, he lost. Joe Biden’s the president.”

The interview comes on the heels of Trump’s third indictment this year. The latest legal trouble is a result of Trump trying to stay in power after losing the 2020 election.

The 45-page indictment filed last week alleges that the former president led a campaign of “dishonest, fraud and conceit” so that he could stop the “bedrock function of a democracy.”

However, DeSantis’s disavowment of Trump’s claims that the election was stolen from him in 2020 didn’t mean he thought the election was perfect.

“I think what people in the media and elsewhere, they want to act like somehow this was just like the perfect election.… I don’t think it was a good-run election,” he said. “But I also think Republicans didn’t fight back. You’ve got to fight back when that is happening.”

Issues DeSantis discussed included Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s grants for election administration, the availability of mail-in ballots, and how state laws allow third parties to collect and return voters’ ballots.

DeSantis also mentioned President Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, and his controversies during the last election.

Still, Trump seemed to be the main topic of discussion, as DeSantis blamed the former president for the problems during the last election, as he said the CARES Act, signed by Trump in March 2020, provided nearly $400 million in funds to the states for election administration help.

“But here’s the issue that I think is important for Republican voters to think about: Why did we have all those mail votes? Because… Trump turned the government over to Fauci,” DeSantis said. “They embraced lockdowns. They did the CARES Act, which funded mail-in ballots across the country.”
