After Paul Pelosi was attacked in his California home last week, several Republicans have decided to mock the Speaker of the House's husband, who could have lost his life in the incident after having his skull fractured with a hammer by the intruder.

Among those who decided to poke fun at Paul Pelosi was Donald Trump Jr., who shared a picture of a hammer and a pair of underwear on social media. His post's caption said it was a "Paul Pelosi Halloween costume."

The attack on the 82-year-old occurred in the middle of the night as the intruder broke into the home and shouted, "where's Nancy?" before fighting with her husband.

Many call the shot from Trump Jr. a low blow, as even his father, former President Donald Trump, called the attack a "terrible thing."

However, despite the discovery of the attacker's involvement in conspiracy theories and police believing he was there to attack the Speaker of the House for her political beliefs, Trump blamed the attack on rising crime.

"With Paul Pelosi, that's a terrible thing, with all of them, it's a terrible thing," Trump said in an interview with Americano Media. "Look at what's happened to San Francisco generally. Look at what's happening in Chicago. It was far worse than Afghanistan."

Trump continued saying that the only way to fight the recent uptick in crime is by giving the police "their dignity" back.

"They can solve the problem. But today, if a police officer says something that's slightly out of line, it's like the end of his life, the end of his pension, the end of his family," Trump continued. "We can't do that. We have to give the police back their authority and their power, and their respect. Because this country is out of control."

Other Republicans, like Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake, also cracked jokes at the expense of Paul Pelosi and his wife.

"Nancy Pelosi — well, she's got protection when she's in D.C. Apparently, her house doesn't have a lot of protection," Lake said, receiving laughter at her event.

President Joe Biden has called on both parties to condemn the attacks on Paul Pelosi out of fear of more politically charged violence taking place.

While speaking with reporters, Biden said that condemning the attack isn't enough, adding that condemning rhetoric about the election being stolen is also important because it can lead to attacks like this.

"You can't condemn the violence unless you condemn those people who continue to argue the election was not real... Condemn what produces the violence," Biden said.
