On Saturday night, a car crashed into the security gate that surrounds the White House, and officials shared that the incident killed the driver.
The D.C. Police Department is still investigating what happened, but they are only looking into it as a traffic collision.
The Secret Service said there were no threats or public safety concerns resulting from the car crash, spokesperson Anthony Gugliemi shared with CBS News.
Still, the agency has said that it is also investigating the crash to ensure there was no malicious intent.
According to the Secret Service, the vehicle was speeding when it collided with the gate that lines the outer perimeter of the White House complex at around 10:30 p.m. EST.
Officers arrived at the crash site to deliver aid to the driver, who was identified as a male, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
“There was no threat to the White House,” the Secret Service’s statement read. “The fatal crash portion of this will be turned over to the Washington Metropolitan Police Department Crash Investigation Unit, and the Secret Service investigation continues.”
There were no other injuries caused by the incident.
