PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A high school in Delaware County received an unexpected package: Instead of getting a delivery of textbooks and supplies, a FedEx driver dropped off a box of guns.

The superintendent of the Chester Upland School District said the shipment arrived at Chester High School on Friday, where it sat locked in a loading dock all weekend.

On Monday, FedEx told the school that its shipment was delivered to the wrong address, and it had received the wrong package entirely.

Delaware County authorities said it was an “honest mistake.”

Chester Police Commissioner Steven Gretsky told NBC10 that the box was not addressed to the school or even to a property in the city of Chester. Rather, it had been addressed to an avid gun collector in neighboring Chester Township.

“I’m just happy that the school acted the way they did and contacted the police department, and we were able to return the guns to FedEx,” he said.

No students were in the school building; they don’t return for classes until next week.

FedEx said it takes this matter very seriously and is cooperating fully with investigators.
