A mass shooting early on Sunday morning has left at least nine people injured in downtown Cincinnati, police shared. They added that the shooter is still on the loose.

At a news conference, Lt. Colonel Mike John from the Cincinnati Police Department shared that an officer fired at the shooter, but it is not known if they hit them.

Currently, no one is in custody for the shooting as the suspect “fled the scene,” John shared.

As for the victims, John shared that none of them were “in critical condition, and most of those injuries are lower extremity injuries.”

A large crowd was gathered after the shooting but was quickly broken up by officers who deployed “two bang balls” into the air, according to John. The devices were used so emergency medical responders could get through and treat the wounded.

John shared that the suspect was reportedly wearing a white shirt and dark pants at the time of the shooting.

Another shooting, in which two were injured, also occurred in the city’s Central Business District around the same time, but John shared that it’s unknown if the two were related.

No further information has been provided about the victims or their status at this time.

John shared that camera footage is being reviewed and that police are canvassing the scene, searching for witnesses as the investigation remains ongoing.
