Thousands of weekend flights have been canceled or delayed due to a winter storm that's invaded the Midwest -- and the numbers are expected to grow as a blizzard warning continues for several areas.

As of 3 p.m. ET Saturday, 4,335 flights within, into or out of the U.S. have been delayed and another 1,239 flights have been canceled.

United, Southwest and SkyWest are among the airlines that have put the kibosh on flights, according to tracking service FlightAware.

United Airlines has the most cancellations -- 242 flights or 10% of its total flights for the day. The airline has delayed another 388 flights, or 16% of its daily flight schedule.

Southwest Airlines has the most delayed flights -- 871 or 26% of its flights for the day. The airline has also canceled 144 flights.

SkyWest, a regional airline, has delayed 365 flights and canceled 135 flights; American Airlines has delayed 609 flights and canceled 56 others; Delta Air Lines has delayed 437 flights and canceled another 49; JetBlue Airways has delayed 225 flights and canceled 14 others; and Spirit Airlines has delayed 161 flights and canceled 16 others.

Chicago's O'Hare Airport has the largest number of cancellations and delays, followed by Denver International Airport and Detroit Metro Airport.

A blizzard warning that's in effect for several areas of the Midwest will continue through Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

The cancellations come one day after hundreds of flights out of Chicago were canceled when a major snowstorm forced the shutdown of O'Hare Airport.
