Artificial intelligence has expanded its reach yet again — to Shake Shack's menu.
The burger-and-shake chain announced Thursday that its new plant-based line includes items made with dairy-free milk, an ingredient created from AI-generated recipes.
Shake Shack partnered with NotCo to use its AI-generated dairy-free milk, called NoMilk, for its chocolate milkshake and frozen custard.
According to Shake Shack, the non-dairy frozen custard is described as "chocolatey, creamy scoops of plant-based, non-dairy frozen custard made with NotMilk," and a non-dairy chocolate shake described as "hand-spun chocolatey, creamy, plant-based, non-dairy frozen custard made with NotMilk."

NoMillk was invented by "Giuseppe," NotCo's AI system, which can evaluate food products at the molecular level and replicate them using solely plant-based options.
"It looks for matches in flavor, texture, nutrition and functionality, among other characteristics," according to the company's website. "Each recipe is different and there are some that match better than others."
"These impactful additions to our core menu give our guests more options, and we can’t wait to roll them out for Shack fans across the country," Shake Shack’s CMO, Jay Livingston, said in a statement.
