An employee at a trucking company fatally shot his boss and injured another former coworker on Tuesday as he was about to be fired, police reported. After shooting the two, he then took his own life.
Nikola Misovic, 30, was killed by Jeremy Jerome Spice, 31, at Winner's Freight at 3 p.m. at an office park in Burr Ridge, Illinois, police said, ABC7 reported.
Misovic was a resident of Darien, Illinois, while Spice was from Arkansas, where investigators said he had one prior conviction for domestic battery. Police reported that Spice had only worked for the company for a week before the shooting.
Deputy Chief Marc Loftus shared more on what led up to the shooting and suicide.
"He delivered one load," Loftus said. "There was a disagreement over whether he wanted to do another one, so the company was going to fire him."
Misovic was shot multiple times by Spicer, according to Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso. After being shot, Misovic was taken to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The trucking company was located in an office park, and after reportedly shooting Misovic, Spicer went to two other logistics firms where he used to work, located in the same park.
While there, he shot a female accountant, 31, who worked for Force Transportation. The woman was severely injured by the shooting but was stable in the ICU as of Wednesday morning, WSAZ reported.
At the second business he went to, Egzit Logistics, he left after he found out his former boss was not there.
After the shootings, Spicer walked for about three-quarters of a mile to another business, asked to use the bathroom, and twenty minutes later, employees asked him to leave and called the police, police said.
He was then located sitting on a sidewalk outside.
"From what I understand, the initial officer pulled up, saw Spicer," Loftus said. "Spicer moved his hand, the officer went behind his car for cover, while he was going around the car for cover he heard a shot, looked over and Spicer was dead."
