With Democrats growing more concerned with President Joe Biden by the day, several names are being floated as possibilities if the decision is made to find a new Democratic nominee.

There are those in the party who are supporting Biden until he decides not to run anymore. Still, recent reports have found that others within the party are growing concerned about Biden’s ability to serve another term.

In the instance that Biden was to step aside as some Democrats are calling on him to do, there seems to be a consensus that a handful of names would be considered to replace him.

At the top of most lists is Biden’s right-hand woman, Vice President Kamala Harris. While Harris has continued to support her boss, many have thrown her name out as the possible replacement for Biden, even former President Donald Trump.

“They say the only one they could choose is Kamala because of… what that would represent to the black population. That they would be extremely upset if that didn’t happen,” Trump said while speaking with Audacy’s WRVA.

But while the vice president has made any play to take over the nominee, she is the most experienced Democrat, having served a term as the country’s number two. In fact, many had begun to look ahead to 2028 as a possible timeline for Harris to run, being that she was chosen by Biden to be his running mate.

Despite this, Harris would have a tough time against Trump, as polling averages from RealClearPolling show she is trailing the former president in the limited number of surveys that match the two up against each other. In the hypothetical, Trump leads Harris by 6.6%.

For months, California Gov. Gavin Newsom has also been theorized as a potential replacement for Biden, having spent time in the spotlight for the Democratic party in recent years by his challenges of top Republicans like Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Newsom even debated DeSantis as a means of showcasing why he is the better of the two governors.

If he were chosen, his resume would include serving two terms as the governor of one of the nation’s largest economies.

Across the country, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s name has also been thrown out as a choice, with the newer Democrat quickly becoming a top voice in the party since she was elected in 2018.

In 2022, she won her second term as the state’s governor easily and helped bring a blue wave to Michigan’s state House and Senate.

Another member of Biden’s cabinet who could lead a Democratic ticket is Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who already ran for president once in 2020.

One of the younger names being tossed around at only 42 years old, many have also thought Buttigieg might consider throwing his hat into the ring once again in 2028.

While calls for Biden to step down have been cannon fodder for Republicans in recent weeks, things seem to be getting worse for the president as Democratic Governors met on Tuesday to address their concerns with the president.

On Tuesday, Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) became the first sitting Democratic lawmaker to call on Biden to hand over the reins.
