Another Republican is stepping up to challenge incumbent GOP Sen. Bill Cassidy in 2025.
Public Service Commissioner Eric Skrmetta of Metairie announced his candidacy Friday.
"We must protect our Southern border, invest in our military strength, and stop Green New Deal whims," Skrmetta said in a video announcement.
He is the latest Republican to join the effort to unseat Cassidy, who has held the seat since defeating Democrat Mary Landrieu.
Cassidy drew the ire of Louisiana Republicans when he voted to convict Donald Trump after the president's second impeachment trial.
That impeachment accused Trump of inciting the January 6, 2021 riot at the U.S. Capitol, when he refused to concede defeat to Joe Biden.
