(AP) — Louisiana lawmakers say the focus for their special session starting Monday centers on the coronavirus pandemic and Hurricane Laura recovery.
But the session agenda is so broadly written that dozens, if not hundreds of bills, on a long list of topics could be filed.
Among the many items are the state budget, emergency powers for officials, COVID-19 treatment and prevention and high school athletics.
The session begins Monday at 6 p.m. and can last up to 30 days. Lawmakers called themselves into session, so Gov. John Bel Edwards was sidelined in crafting the agenda.
One of the main debates will involve whether to curb Edwards' emergency authority in the pandemic.
