Ahead of the 2026 election cycle, Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy raised nearly $1.5 million in the third quarter of this year through his reelection, leadership, and joint fundraising committees.
This marks the last full fundraising quarter before the official election cycle begins, with Cassidy’s team stating that this is the most cash on hand for any incumbent Louisiana senator at this point in history.
LAPolitics.com Publisher Jeremy Alford says Cassidy is ahead of any incumbent senator at this point heading into an election cycle.
“He’s had a couple of really high-profile fundraisers, and so you’re starting to see that kind of fundraising base come together,” said Alford.
Cassidy plans to close the quarter with $5.8 million in cash, along with an additional $1 million in his super PAC.
Alford says Cassidy is sending a strong signal about his intentions.
“You know, not only does he intend to stand for reelection, but he’s also going to put up a tough fight,” Alford said.
Some potential challengers are PSC Member Eric Skrmetta and State Treasure John Fleming. Both are arguably more conservative than Cassidy. Skrmetta has close connections with Donald Trump, and Alford noted Fleming was a Deputy Chief of Staff in the Trump administration.
Cassidy drew the ire of Louisiana conservatives and even a public censure from the Louisiana Republican Party for voting to convict Donald Trump during the former president's second impeachment after the attempted insurrection on Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021.
“He may be getting ahead of the curve on this one if the chatter is serious, but the treasurer says he has the job that he likes. We will have to wait and see,” he said.
