Sen. Kennedy: House Democrats stand in way of more coronavirus relief

Louisiana U.S. Senator John Kennedy doesn't sound optimistic that there will be a coronavirus relief bill passed during the lame-duck session of Congress.

Kennedy says House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives is holding fast to a bill that has many items unrelated to the coronavirus pandemic, from prison reform to election law.

"Between a third and 40 percent of all medium and small businesses, medium sized and small businesses in America are still losing money," said Kennedy. "We have tens of millions of people who are out of work through no fault of their own, and we need a targeted fifth coronavirus bill."

Kennedy says Senate Republicans have offered a competing bill, but it hasn't gained any traction, either.

"We have our own bill," said Kennedy, "but (Sen.) Chuck Schumer, at the direction of Nancy Pelosi, has always said, 'no, we're gonna do the Pelosi bill.'"
