A Week 5 loss to the Panthers was very likely the icing on the cake regarding Dan Quinn's career as the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons.
According to Falcons insider Jeff Schultz, Quinn's firing is "all but finalized" and could become official on Monday or Tuesday. RADIO.COM Sports NFL insider Jason La Canfora confirmed the report, indicating that the move could come sooner rather than later.
Fellow RADIO.COM Sports NFL insider Ross Tucker weighed in on the decision as well, saying that "it's for the best" and that there's "no reason to delay the inevitable."
The Falcons' lead-blowing ways have become part of the team's identity, stemming from their 28-3 lead against the Patriots in Super Bowl LI -- one that ultimately cost Charles Barkley and many others a lot of money. So far in the 2020 season, the Falcons have blown a 20-point lead and a 16-point lead to add insult to injury -- the injury being their 0-5 record.
Should his firing occur as expected, Quinn will end his tenure in Atlanta with a 43-42 record in the regular season with postseason berths in 2016 and 2017, the former of which led to a Super Bowl appearance. However, the Falcons have not had a winning record since 2017, and it's not looking all too likely that 2020 will break that streak.
The list of potential replacements for Quinn is lengthy, and it includes the man who helped to put up 30 points on the Falcons on Sunday.
