The callers are one of the unique things that sets talk radio apart from other media, and the callers we get into our show are very unique in the industry.
I am continually amazed at questions, comments, and antics of many of the people who call our show, and I often get comments from listeners who notice that our show seems to attract the most bizarre callers.
Today, a well-intentioned caller - Jamie from Mandeville - called in to complain that we were poking fun at President Biden’s odd relationship with one of his grandchildren, and not talking about the real important issues, like the Louisiana state legislature’s budget maneuverings and pollution and environmental policy in the state. I explained that our show does not always pour a lot of gasoline on more fundamentally serious topics, and that our show has a tradition of dealing with topics that offer a break from what others in radio and other media are talking about.
SOTA on WWL definitely deals with serious issues - but we will never shy away from adding an irreverent or sarcastic spin to those topics. We understand that we all face serious issues - but there are plenty of shows that deal with those issues. Our job is to take a break from covering the most serious topics and offer listeners a break from the tough topics.
I can't help but believe that people driving or working at home or in an office need some relief from all the serious news that invades our lives daily!
