If we ever needed the distraction of Jazz Fest, it is now. But even with the joy of Jazz Fest there will be concerns about carjackings, car break-ins, and armed robberies.
Nothing in New Orleans takes place on an island. Even Jazz Fest will carry concerns about the state of our city and the failure of our city leaders to do more to discourage the free reign that young, thug-minded individuals continue to have over the citizens of New Orleans.
We do live in a new world with the reality of a pandemic and a crime wave, and precautions will need to be taken to battle both. But since the pandemic and the crime wave are givens - Jazz Fest will bring needed relief for Jazz Fest-goers, the artists, and the many vendors that make the Fest a unique New Orleans experience.
