Any negative news about President Donald Trump ignites strong emotions, especially with his true MAGA supporters. One call on the show right after Trump’s arrest and arraignment in the documents case was even hotter than the temperature on the street!
On my talk show on WWL, a MAGA listener called into the show with such passion that he blurted out a call for President Biden to be assassinated. When I pointed out his obvious error, he took back his comment and admitted that he was overly passionate about Trump’s being held to account for alleged criminal activity. The caller - Les from Slidell - was mistaken in some of his "facts" about Biden - but he reflected the strong sentiment of many Americans.
For the record - there are key differences between Trump and Biden’s actions surrounding classified documents. Biden did take classified documents to his office and his house, but he did not criminally obstruct the FBI from retrieving them like Trump is accused of doing. Don’t forget, there is an ongoing Federal investigation into President Biden’s documents issues, and another into his son Hunter. As to why those investigations are taking so long - I'm sure it has to do with politics - but everyone should be treated equally.
After this highly-charged call with Les - I was swamped with text messages from listeners telling me to stop wasting my time with callers like Les because their blind loyalty to Trump renders them incapable of caring about the real truth. But I enjoyed my convo with Les and to his credit, after he calmed down, he was reasonable enough to talk about the reality of the issue - not the right-wing fantasy.
Everyone gets passionate about politics - but don’t let your passions blind you to what is actually happening!
