The murder of John Lennon, on this day in 1980, sent a shock wave through America, especially the Boomer generation who came of age with the music of The Beatles as the soundtrack of their lives.
At the time of his murder 43 years ago, John Lennon was feared by the Nixon administration as a threat to national security because of his anti-war position. Many attempts to deport Lennon failed and Lennon remained in America - only to be shot and killed here by a man who was apparently seeking notoriety.
