Scoot: Trump proves I wasn't bashing him - just telling the truth

President-elect Donald Trump has provided proof that I was not unfair to him during the campaign - I was only being honest.

During the 2024 presidential campaign, one of Donald Trump’s main campaign promises was that he was going to immediately end inflation.  There were listeners who called my talk show to say they were voting for Trump because he was going to end the inflation that had been impacting their lives.

Complaints about inflation during the recent campaign were real and many Americans were complaining about not being able to buy their usual groceries because of inflation.  Complaints about inflation continued even after inflation began to drop during the final months of the Biden administration.

While there were different reasons people had for voting for Trump, one of the primary reasons that was talked about a lot on my show was Trump’s promise to end inflation immediately.

In August before the election, Trump said, “Prices will come down.  You just watch: They’ll come down, and they’ll come down fast.”

Also during the campaign Trump said, “We will end inflation and make America affordable again, and we’re going to get the prices down.”
During an interview after TIME magazine named Trump “Person of the Year,” Trump was asked about his promise to end inflation and he responded, “I’d like to bring them [prices] down.  It’s hard to bring them down once they’re up.  You know, it’s very hard.”  Trump blamed the Biden administration for creating inflation, but as I pointed out, if presidents controlled inflation then history would not be littered with examples of high inflation during election years.  If sitting presidents had the ability to control inflation during a re-election year don’t you think they would exercise that power to help their re-election bid?

In an interview the other day with Kristen Welker of NBC News, Trump was asked if he could guarantee that Americans won’t pay more and Trump said, “I can’t guarantee anything.”

When Trump promised to end inflation during the campaign, I constantly said that he can’t make that promise and that presidents do not have that kind of control over inflation.  I was criticized for being negative about Trump and for being a left-wing radical who was doing nothing but looking for ways to bash Trump.

Well, now Trump himself has proven that I was not a left-wing radical trying to bash him.  The only thing I consistently did during the 2024 campaign is point out the truth.  I reminded people that candidates make promises they can’t keep and the callers who insisted that Trump would end inflation were wrong.

It’s important to point this out because telling the truth about candidates during an election cycle is important.  But the listeners who are trapped in a conservative media echo chamber who never hear the truth about Trump heard me talking about how Trump could not end inflation immediately and thought I was making up things to use to criticize Trump.  All I did was point out the obvious and that is that politicians lie and what they can do because the general American voting public is pathetically gullible and believe what they hope is true rather than what is actually true.  Trump lied and convinced a lot of Americans that he would end inflation right away just to get their votes - and it worked.  People believed the improbable.

Now, Donald Trump is admitting that he was not honest during the campaign and that ending inflation is something he may not be able to do because “it’s hard.”  Yet, he was emphatic about this promise to end inflation.  I was right to point out that promising the end inflation was an unrealistic promise.

I want to thank Trump for demonstrating that I wasn’t bashing him during the campaign - I was just pointing out the truth.
