Scoot: Supreme Court rules some Americans don’t deserve 2nd Amendment right!

There are two reasons I LOVE the Supreme Court decision robbing domestic abusers of their 2nd Amendment rights. First, domestic abusers do not deserve the right to own a gun. Secondly, the conservative-leaning Supreme Court refused to pander to the gun rights movement and instead ruled that it is appropriate to restrict certain rights to certain Americans.

Being an American who is deserving of the rights guaranteed in the Constitution carries with it responsibilities.  If American citizens fail to live up to certain responsibilities, they do not deserve the rights enjoyed by others.  Any individuals who abuse their spouses or partners should not be allowed to own guns.

Some gun rights activists may disagree with the Supreme Court decision, but contrary to popular belief within those groups, 2nd Amendment rights are not guaranteed to every American citizen and the Supreme Court made that clear today.

Because of the conservative justices placed on the Supreme Court by President Trump, I have been concerned that the High Court would consistently rule in favor of any conservative agenda issues.  What the Supreme Court did was demonstrate that the law supersedes politics and I see this as a very positive moment.

The arguments about the 2nd Amendment guaranteeing every American the right to own a gun is flawed and disregards the exceptions to the 1st Amendment.  The beauty of The Constitution is that it allows for interpretation that makes exceptions for those Americans whose actions make them unworthy of guaranteed rights.

While some may consider the Supreme Court ruling as an example of gun control, the ruling only reinforced the idea that we have responsibilities as American citizens.  If you want to maintain your right to own a gun - don’t abuse your spouse or partner.  It’s that simple.
