The National Weather Service says snow was falling Sunday night in Louisiana from Shreveport to Monroe and from Alexandria to Tallulah.
"Some snow may mix in with rain over portions of Southwest MS and areas north of Baton Rouge," forecasters advised.
Other portions of Mississippi and Alabama were seeing snow as well.
"A wintry mix of rain, light snow and sleet (ice pellets) is possible across parts of interior southeast Mississippi and interior southwest Alabama," the Weather Service said.
The New Orleans area is not expected to see snow.
"Snow will continue spreading in to north and central LA with a cold rain for us," WWL TV Chief Meteorologist Chris Franklin said.
He says the cold rain will fall over Southeast Louisiana overnight and into early Monday.
"It appears the coldest of the air will remain in north Louisiana... with the best chance of snow/sleet."
He says parts of the Northshore could see a few flakes of ice pellets mixed in with the cold rain.
"Temperatures will remain above freezing overnight and Monday morning. Most rain looks to move out by Monday morning with overcast skies and breezy conditions."
Monday highs will only be in the 40s, at times feeling like the upper 30s.
