Four Louisiana State Penitentiary corrections officers were arrested today and booked on malfeasance charges in a case of alleged use of excessive force, and alleged cover-up of the incident.
Karla Williams, Enrico George, Roy Favre and Jeffrey Hall surrendered to the West Feliciana Parish Sheriff's office this morning.
"The alleged incident happened at 2 a.m., April 9, 2021, at the prison while the inmate was being moved to a disciplinary unit," according to a statement from the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections. "While receiving treatment for his minor injuries, the inmate notified medical staff of what happened, and medical staff alerted Louisiana State Penitentiary's investigations division."
The four officers were placed on administrative leave. Prison investigators notified the West Feliciana Parish Sheriff's Office and the FBI.
"A week-long investigation determined that the officers failed to accurately report the incident, which resulted in warrants for their arrests," officials said. "More charges are pending."
