In Louisiana the COVID-19 vaccine is limited to healthcare workers, health school students and faculty and people over the age of 70 years old.
However, in Mississippi, the rules on who can get a vaccine are a little more relaxed. The state opened its vaccine restrictions to people with out-of-state addresses.
As The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate reports, over 800 Louisiana residents traveled to Mississippi to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. More than 5,300 of Mississippi’s vaccines were given to people with out-of-state addresses.
The vaccine is also available to anyone who smokes, over the age of 16, is overweight, has diabetes or cancer. This is why more and more Louisianians are taking the drive across the state line to Mississippi in hope of getting the COVID-19 vaccine.
Here is a list of Mississippi requirement for COVID vaccinations:
-Chronic kidney disease
-COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
- Down Syndrome

- Severe Obesity (BMI 40 kg/m2 or higher)
- Pregnancy
- Sickle cell disease

- Diabetes
- Cancer
- Or other medical conditions as determined by your medical provider
-Note that your physician or medical provider may advise that you be vaccinated even if you do not have a health condition listed above.
